Legal and Regulatory Disclosures

This page contains general legal and regulatory information about Centerpointe Financials, the professionals who provide services, and the framework under which those services operate. Read it together with the agreements and disclosures provided during your engagement with us.

Important Information About Centerpointe Financials

Centerpointe Financials is committed to communicating clearly about the financial and insurance services available through our organization, the professionals who provide those services and the regulatory framework under which they operate.

This page contains general legal and regulatory information. It should be read together with the agreements, disclosure documents, applications, policy contracts and product information provided to you during your engagement with us.

The availability of a service or product depends on your province or territory, the licences and registrations held by the professional assisting you, and the organizations through which that professional conducts business.

Affiliation and Independence Statement

Centerpointe Financials is an organisation that is comprised of individuals associated with World Financial Group Insurance Agency, LLC and World Financial Group, Inc., but it is not an affiliated company of World Financial Group, Inc., WFGIA (in California dba World Financial Insurance Agency, LLC.), World Financial Group Insurance Agency of Hawaii, Inc., World Financial Group Insurance Agency of Massachusetts, Inc., nor WFG Insurance Agency of Puerto Rico, Inc. (collectively referred to as “WFG”).

References to Centerpointe Financials on this website describe the local organization and individuals associated with the Centerpointe practice. They should not be interpreted as creating an affiliation, partnership, joint venture or employment relationship with WFG beyond the associations of the individuals involved.

Who Provides Our Services

Centerpointe offers access to different financial and insurance services. These services may not all be provided by the same legal entity.

Before receiving a regulated service, you will be informed of the legal entity and licensed professional responsible for providing it.

Ask your representative to confirm the current responsible organization, licence or registration details for the service you are receiving. Details may also appear on engagement letters, insurance disclosures, account documents and product materials.

Licences, Registrations and Professional Titles

Centerpointe representatives may hold different licences, registrations and professional credentials. Each representative may provide only the services permitted by their current licence, registration, appointment and contractual authority.

The biographies of our professionals should identify, where applicable:

  • Their employing or sponsoring organization
  • The provinces or territories in which they are licensed
  • Their licence or registration category
  • Approved professional credentials
  • The credentialing organization responsible for those credentials
  • Any material limitations on the services they may provide

The titles “Financial Planner” and “Financial Advisor” are protected in Ontario. A representative will use one of these titles only where authorized under the applicable title-protection framework.

You may verify a representative’s status using the appropriate regulator or credentialing organization. Contact us if you need assistance locating the relevant public registry.

Insurance Services

Insurance recommendations and applications are handled by appropriately licensed insurance professionals. Depending on the type of insurance requested, the responsible professional may act through a licensed corporate agency, managing general agency, brokerage or insurer.

A licensed insurance professional will provide any required written disclosure concerning:

  • The insurers the professional is authorized to represent
  • The nature of the professional’s relationship with those insurers
  • How the professional may be compensated
  • Potential or actual conflicts of interest
  • Any referral arrangement that applies
  • The process for making a complaint

Centerpointe and its representatives may not have access to every insurer or insurance product available in the marketplace. Recommendations are made from the products that the responsible representative is licensed and contractually authorized to offer.

Insurance Applications and Coverage

Submitting an application does not guarantee that coverage will be issued. Insurance is subject to the insurer’s underwriting requirements, approval and policy terms.

Coverage does not take effect merely because an application has been submitted or a premium has been discussed. The effective date of coverage will be determined by the insurer and confirmed in the applicable policy or written notice.

The issued insurance contract governs the coverage. It may contain limitations, exclusions, waiting periods, definitions, cancellation provisions and other conditions that are not fully described on this website.

Investment Products and Services

Investment products and regulated investment advice are provided through a separate registered dealer or investment firm.

Dealer or registered firm: Confirm the full legal name with your representative and on your account documents.

Registration category: Confirm with your representative and the dealer’s public registration information.

Regulatory organization: Typically CIRO and/or the applicable provincial securities regulator, depending on the firm and activity.

Relationship to Centerpointe: Centerpointe Financials is a local organization through which clients may be introduced to appropriately registered investment professionals. Investment accounts and regulated advice are provided through the dealer or registered firm identified in the client’s account documents—not by Centerpointe as a dealer.

Your investment representative will provide the account-opening, relationship, cost, conflict and product disclosure documents required by the organization through which your investments are held.

Recommendations will take into consideration information such as your:

  • Financial circumstances
  • Investment knowledge
  • Investment objectives
  • Time horizon
  • Risk profile
  • Liquidity requirements
  • Personal and family circumstances

You are responsible for notifying your representative when this information changes.

Centerpointe representatives do not exercise discretionary authority over a client’s investment account unless the responsible firm and representative are specifically registered and authorized to provide discretionary portfolio-management services.

Product Availability

The investments available through a representative may be limited to the products approved by the responsible dealer or firm. A recommendation should not be interpreted as a review of every product available in Canada.

Clients will receive the applicable product information, cost disclosure and account documentation before or when required in connection with an investment decision.

Compensation and Fees

Centerpointe, its affiliated organizations and its representatives may receive compensation in connection with the services or products provided to clients.

Depending on the engagement, compensation may include:

  • Financial-planning or advisory fees
  • Insurance commissions
  • Renewal commissions
  • Investment-management or account-based fees
  • Sales commissions
  • Trailing commissions
  • Dealer or administrative fees
  • Bonuses or production-based compensation
  • Referral fees
  • Compensation paid by an insurer, dealer, agency or other provider

The statement that a consultation or financial review is “complimentary” means that no separate upfront consultation fee is charged for that meeting. It does not necessarily mean that Centerpointe or the representative will receive no compensation if you later purchase a product, open an account or engage an ongoing service.

The specific fees, commissions and other compensation applicable to a recommendation will be explained through the relevant engagement agreement, insurance disclosure, product document or dealer documentation.

You should ask questions if you do not understand how Centerpointe or a representative will be compensated.

Conflicts of Interest

A conflict of interest can arise when Centerpointe, a representative or an affiliated organization has an interest that may affect, or appear to affect, the recommendations or services provided to a client.

Potential conflicts may include:

  • Compensation associated with recommending or arranging a product
  • Different compensation rates among products or providers
  • Referral arrangements with other professionals
  • Relationships with insurers, investment firms or service providers
  • Ownership or other financial interests in an affiliated organization
  • Incentives based on sales, assets or business volume

Material conflicts will be identified and addressed in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. When required, the conflict will be disclosed to you in a clear and timely manner.

If a material conflict cannot be addressed appropriately, the applicable service or recommendation may not be provided.

Referral Arrangements

Centerpointe may refer clients to accountants, lawyers, mortgage professionals, real estate professionals, benefits consultants or other service providers. Centerpointe may also receive referrals from third parties.

If money or another benefit is exchanged under a referral arrangement, the arrangement and the nature of the compensation will be disclosed where required.

A referral does not guarantee the quality, outcome or suitability of the third party’s services. Clients should conduct their own assessment before retaining any external professional.

The third-party professional remains responsible for the advice and services they provide.

Insurance Risks and Limitations

Insurance products vary considerably. Premiums, benefits, guarantees, exclusions, surrender values and taxation can depend on the specific contract and the client’s circumstances.

Illustrations and projections are based on assumptions. Non-guaranteed values may be higher or lower than illustrated.

Cancelling, replacing or surrendering an existing insurance policy can create costs, tax consequences or a loss of valuable benefits. You should not cancel existing coverage until replacement coverage is approved, in force and reviewed with an appropriately licensed professional.

Any contractual guarantee is subject to the terms of the policy and the claims-paying ability of the issuing insurer.

Investment Risks

Investing involves risk. The value of an investment may increase or decrease, and an investor may lose some or all of the amount invested.

Past performance does not guarantee future results. Market commentary, projections, rates of return and examples presented on this website are for illustration or education and should not be treated as promises of future performance.

Unless expressly stated in the governing product documents, investment products are not guaranteed or insured.

Before investing, review the applicable product documents and consider the product’s objectives, risks, fees, liquidity restrictions and tax implications.

Segregated Funds, Annuities and Insurance-Based Investments

Segregated fund contracts, annuities and other insurance-based investment products are issued by insurance companies and are governed by their contract terms.

Guarantees may apply only at specified maturity dates or upon death and may be reduced by withdrawals. Fees, reset provisions, creditor-protection considerations, beneficiary designations and tax treatment vary by contract and individual circumstances.

Any guarantee is subject to the financial ability of the issuing insurer to meet its obligations.

Registered Accounts and Government Programs

Information concerning RRSPs, TFSAs, FHSAs, RESPs, pensions and other registered arrangements is general in nature. Contribution limits, eligibility requirements, grants, tax treatment and withdrawal rules may change.

Clients should verify their available contribution room and personal tax information through the Canada Revenue Agency or another appropriate government authority before contributing or withdrawing funds.

Centerpointe is not responsible for penalties, taxes or lost benefits resulting from inaccurate contribution-room information supplied by a client or an unauthorized contribution or withdrawal.

Website and Educational Information

Information on this website, including articles, videos, calculators, assessments, checklists, seminars and downloadable resources, is provided for general educational purposes.

It does not constitute:

  • An insurance contract or offer of coverage
  • A securities offering
  • Personalized investment advice
  • A recommendation to buy or sell a particular product
  • Legal, tax or accounting advice
  • A guarantee of eligibility, approval, savings or performance

Online assessments and calculators use assumptions and limited information. Their results are estimates and should not replace a personalized review.

A professional-client relationship is established only after the required engagement, identity-verification, suitability, consent and account-opening procedures have been completed.

Testimonials, Reviews and Case Studies

Testimonials, ratings, reviews and case studies reflect the experiences or opinions of the individuals involved. Their experiences may not represent the experience of every client and do not guarantee a particular financial, insurance or investment outcome.

Where compensation, incentives or a material relationship relates to a testimonial or endorsement, that relationship will be disclosed as required.

Client stories may be anonymized or presented as composites to protect privacy. Any materially illustrative or composite story will be identified as such.

Client Funds and Payment Security

Do not make a cheque, electronic transfer or other payment payable to an individual advisor or representative.

Payments should be made only to the organization identified in the official application, invoice, account document or policy instructions.

Unless expressly authorized and disclosed in writing, Centerpointe does not take custody of client investment assets. Investment assets are held through the dealer, custodian, fund company or financial institution identified in the client’s account documents.

Contact Centerpointe using independently verified contact information if you receive unusual payment instructions or a request to transfer funds to an unfamiliar account.

Privacy and Electronic Communications

Centerpointe collects, uses and discloses personal information in accordance with its Privacy Policy and applicable privacy requirements.

Email and other electronic communications may not always be secure or error-free. Do not send sensitive financial, medical, identity or account information through unsecured communication channels.

Receiving commercial electronic messages from Centerpointe is subject to applicable consent requirements. You may withdraw your consent to marketing communications using the unsubscribe mechanism provided, although you may continue to receive service-related or legally required communications.

Please review our Privacy Policy for more information.

Complaints and External Recourse

If you have a concern about a Centerpointe service, product or representative, please contact us promptly so that the matter can be reviewed.

Our Complaint-Handling Information page explains:

  • How to submit a complaint
  • What information to provide
  • How the complaint will be acknowledged and investigated
  • Expected response procedures
  • How to escalate a matter
  • Which external complaint or regulatory organization may apply

The appropriate external organization depends on the product, service and legal entity involved. It may include an insurer’s complaint office, an insurance ombudservice, the investment dealer, an independent dispute-resolution service, a self-regulatory organization or a provincial regulator.

Using Centerpointe’s complaint process does not remove any legal rights you may have.

Service Jurisdictions

Services are available only in provinces and territories where the responsible organization and representative are properly licensed, registered or otherwise authorized to conduct business.

The availability of a website page or the receipt of an online inquiry does not mean that a product or service is available in every Canadian jurisdiction.

Visitors outside Canada should not rely on this website as an offer to provide regulated financial or insurance services in their jurisdiction.

Centerpointe may update this page to reflect changes to its services, business relationships, compensation practices or legal and regulatory obligations.

The “Last updated” date at the top of the page will indicate when the disclosures were most recently revised. Material client-specific changes will be communicated separately where required.
