Different cover for different losses

Protect your health and your travel plans.

Emergency Medical Insurance

May cover eligible emergency treatment, hospitalization, physician services, medication, ambulance transportation and medical evacuation while travelling.

Trip Cancellation Insurance

May reimburse eligible non-refundable prepaid expenses when a covered event forces you to cancel before departure.

Trip Interruption Insurance

May cover eligible unused travel arrangements and additional expenses when a covered event interrupts the trip after it begins.

Baggage and Personal Effects

May provide limited coverage for eligible lost, stolen, damaged or delayed baggage and specified personal property.

Choose single-trip, annual or specialist coverage

Single-trip plans cover specified dates; annual plans limit the duration of each trip. Specialist options may be available for eligible students, snowbirds, extended stays and visitors to Canada without provincial coverage. Confirm that the plan matches your residency and travel purpose.

Check before you leave

Medical history can change how the policy responds.

Pre-existing conditions may be excluded or subject to a stability period. New symptoms, tests, referrals, treatment or medication changes can matter even when you feel well enough to travel. Answer medical questions accurately, disclose changes and obtain written clarification when unsure.

Compare workplace and credit-card protection

Read the current certificate. Check who is insured, age and trip-length limits, medical and baggage limits, cancellation rules, deductibles and whether the trip must be paid for with the card. Confirm whether top-up cover is allowed and whether a job change ends the benefits.

Check activities, destinations and policy exclusions

Travel advisories, regional restrictions, adventure sports, manual work, pregnancy-related care and alcohol or substance exclusions can affect claims. Check evacuation authorization, service sublimits and the specific events that qualify for cancellation. A change of mind is not usually covered.

Keep the assistance number with you

In a life-threatening emergency, seek care immediately. Contact the insurer as soon as reasonably possible to arrange assistance and any required authorization. Keep your policy number, medical reports, itemized bills, receipts and correspondence, and leave a copy of your coverage details with someone at home.

Questions before you decide

Look closely at the details.

Do I need travel insurance for a short trip to the United States?

A medical emergency can occur even during a same-day trip. Provincial healthcare may cover little or none of the cost, making travel medical insurance worth considering for any trip outside Canada.

Can I buy insurance after I leave?

Some insurers may offer limited options, but eligibility, waiting periods or restrictions may apply. Coverage should normally be arranged before departure.

What if my trip is extended?

Contact the insurer before the policy expires. Extensions are subject to eligibility, maximum duration, health changes and insurer approval.

Does travel insurance pay every expense upfront?

Not necessarily. Some providers may coordinate payment, while other situations may require you to pay and seek reimbursement. Contact the assistance centre as soon as possible.
